As far back as I can remember I have always loved music.  The way a musician is able to write a song that truly speaks to my heart, it’s amazing!  When I was a teenager, I especially loved music that had a good beat and lots of guitars.  I am a teenager of the 80’s is there more to say?!  One of my favorite bands from that time was a band called Petra.  They are regarded as one of the pioneers of Christian Rock music.  What I loved most about Petra was how they could create a song that really stuck.  So much so, that I am still singing their songs today!  In particular, one song has been sort of an anthem of mine since I began working at Mission Creek Alliance (which for those keeping track was over 20 years ago!)

When I started here I was a young twenty-something I had no work experience, little life experience and felt like all I had to give was a willingness to learn.  But when I reflected on the lyrics to this song, my whole outlook on why I started working at our church at that time became so much more than just a job, it became a calling…God called me here!

The song goes:

I don't have much to offer you, I don't have much to give, there's so much I may never be as long as I may live, and I may never be all I want to be although I'll always try, but if you choose me, to use me, there's just one reason why.

I am available I will go when you say go, my whole life was incomplete, till I laid it at your feet so use me as you will, I am available.

I'm not the most dependable, sometimes you can't rely there's no excuse, there is no defense, there's only one reply. I am available.  I know that my ability is not your main concern, it's my availability and willingness to learn

Throughout my time here I have worn many different hats.  I started out volunteering in Sunday School while I was still in high school, I have worked in the front office, I have lead care groups, been a youth leader, women’s ministry leader and now, have this great privilege to lead in Children’s Ministries.  I may not have the formal education to do what I do, but knowing that God has placed me in these various roles over the years, He has blessed me with the abilities I needed when I needed them, because my prayer over these past 20something years has been I am available Lord, I will go where you want because I lay my life at your feet, so that you may use me. Are you available?

Are you willing to lay your life down at God’s feet and allow Him to use you?  What is stopping you?  You have more to give than you realize, and God will equip you in ways you will never know, if only you too will say to Him: I am available.
