After almost 17 years at our mission base headquarters in Ukarumpa, in the Eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea, we are making a major transition in our ministry moving to Kavieng, New Ireland, an island which is still part of PNG, but will be very different for us. We will be serving as Managers in a multi-language project called New Ireland Translation Institute. The courses held by NITI are run by experienced Wycliffe linguists working in conjunction with Papua New Guinean translators from approximately 10 languages who are translating the New Testament into their heart languages.
When we are not involved with NITI courses, we will serve as Centre Managers for the work of Wycliffe in Kavieng. Bruce will manage the facilities and the cars. I will be involved with bookkeeping, hospitality, logistics and hopefully finding a place to use my nursing experience. We make the move to New Ireland on June 27. This is a great month to be praying for us.
Please pray as we work hard to finish our jobs well here in Ukarumpa and hand over our work responsibilities. Pray for our house to sell or rent. Pray as we say good-bye to many special friends and co-workers. Pray for the many decisions to be made — what to take, leave behind, sell or give away. Pray for the feelings of loss of leaving our home for the past many years. Pray for our transition to a hotter climate in New Ireland, for learning our new jobs, for making contacts and new friends, for establishing our new ministries. We thank God for leading us during this time and are excited to see what is in store for us on our island.
