The Board of Elders met on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026 for our regular monthly meeting. During this meeting we spent time focusing on 3 main areas: Prayer for our church, Spiritual Development, and Governance matters. Here is a brief overview of our meeting:
1. Prayer- We continue to pray for those in our church who are walking through tough times- we pray for healing and strength, and that the Holy Spirit would provide comfort when it feels like hope and joy are scarce. We gave thanks for the opportunity to send a team to Mexico City to minister with and to Chris and Angela Hiebert as they are preparing for a time of transition. Pastor Keith also led us to pray specifically that we would be a church where people would fall in love with Jesus for the first time, and that we would have a vision for how our church building can serve the people in our city.
2. Spiritual Development- Our study of the book Managing Leadership Anxiety by Steve Cuss continues and we discussed the topics of Sources of Internal Anxiety, and Idols, Vows, and the Stories We Tell Ourselves. These chapters led us to reflect on how people and events in our past influence the way we make decisions in the present, and challenged us to examine why we may react in certain situations.
3. Governance Matters- This month we approved Janet Kirby and Gary Schieck to be appointed as Lay Delegates to the C&MA Canada General Assembly in June. The Board supports Janet and Gary to vote as representatives of the MCA Board of Elders, and Pastor Keith will be attending as a Credentialed Worker along with Ric and Ruth-Anne Gilbertson. There has also been an update to the Finance Committee- as Michelle Southgate is now on staff in the role of Finance & HR it was discussed and agreed that to avoid any potential conflict of interest or lack of independence that it seems appropriate for her to step off of the committee. Michelle is in agreement with this, and the remaining members of the committee continue to meet the bylaw requirements regarding composition and so no additional committee member will be added at this time.
4. Financial Reports for February were reviewed and approved. We are thankful for your faithful giving each month that allows our church to continue to run ministries that shine the light of Jesus into our city.
